Problem 1: black bars on the inner screen
What happens: you unfold the phone and the app does not fill the 7.6-inch inner display. You get a phone-sized layout in the middle, with black bars around it. Early reviews and owners list this among the first things they notice.
Why: how an app renders depends on the iOS SDK its developer built it with. Apps built with the iOS 26 SDK keep iPhone proportions inside black frames. Apps built with the iOS 27 SDK extend further. Only apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK get the full screen.
Check it in 30 seconds: unfold the phone and open the app. Black bands on the sides, or a narrow column in the middle, mean it has not been rebuilt for the device. It may still work. You just do not get the extra space for charts and tables.

Problem 2: a dead strip on the cover screen
What happens: with the phone closed, some apps leave a black column along the right edge of the 5.4-inch cover display. Owners also report that Safari wastes width there when the phone is closed.
Why: these are apps that have not been updated for the device, so their layout does not match the cover screen exactly.
Check it in 30 seconds: close the phone, open the app and look at the right edge. Content should reach both sides. On a screen this size, every column counts for a price, a ticker or a headline.
Problem 3: no foldable build yet
What happens: in the first days after launch, the App Store pages of several popular charting and broker apps showed no sign of iPhone Duo support. There was no Duo badge and no Duo mention in the release notes when we checked on October 25, 2026. This changes week by week, so treat it as a moving target, not a verdict on any app.
Why: developers need to rebuild and test their apps for a new screen shape, and that takes time. Apple is adding a "Made for iPhone Duo" badge to App Store listings to make the difference easier to see.
Check it in 30 seconds: open the app page in the App Store. Look for the badge, then read the latest release notes for a mention of the iPhone Duo or the foldable display. If you chart in TradingView or a broker app, check its release notes for Duo support the same way.
Problem 4: losing your place when you unfold
What happens: you are reading a long list or a detail screen, you unfold the phone, and you land somewhere else. Developers working on the device report that apps which swap layouts on fold can drop an open sheet, reset scroll and selection, or show an empty screen until you refresh.
Why: unfolding does not restart the app. To the app it is a size change. An app that switches to a different layout at that moment has to carry what you were doing across, and not every app does that yet.
Check it in 30 seconds: open a screen you use often, scroll partway down or open a sheet, then unfold. Fold it back and repeat. If you keep landing at the top or on a blank screen, you will hit it every day.
Problem 5: Split View locked at 50/50
What happens: Split View, two apps side by side, is new on iPhone with the Duo. But it is fixed at 50/50. If you pair a chart with another app, each one gets half the screen, and you cannot resize them.
Why: that is how Split View works on this device, not a bug in any one app. Developers also note that in landscape the keyboard covers a large part of the open screen, which matters if you type while you watch a chart.
Check it in 30 seconds: put your finance app in Split View next to the app you pair it with most. See if the chart or table is still readable at half width. If not, plan to switch between apps instead.
How AI Investing handles it
AI Investing is our AI research app for stocks and crypto on iOS and Android. You ask about a ticker and get a plain-language read built on live market data. It is read-only, informational only and never places trades. Here is how it maps to the list above.
Version 2.1.41, released on the App Store on October 24, 2026, includes changes for the iPhone Duo. A native bridge tells the app where the fold and the corner cutouts are. Layout follows the available width, not the device type: a phone layout with a tab bar when the window is narrow, a wider layout with a side rail when it is wide. Landscape is enabled on iPhone, so the inner display is not shown sideways.
Half open, the screen splits into two panes so nothing is drawn across the fold. The screen you are on stays on one side, and the docked AI chat sits on the other with its own navigation. Near the top corners, bars and rows, chat bubbles included, are placed beside the status area instead of under it.
In a narrow column, Market Outlook titles shorten cleanly, tickers in a story wrap to the next line, and the welcome screen of a new chat scrolls when the window is short.
What it does not do: it runs as a single window and does not advertise Split View or multi-window support. We do not promise that every screen keeps its exact state on fold or unfold, so run check 4 with the screens you use most. App Store screenshots show it on the cover and inner screens, in English and Spanish.
Inner screen
Layout follows the available width. Wide windows get a side rail, and landscape is enabled.
Cover screen
Narrow windows get the phone layout with a tab bar, with narrow-column fixes for titles, tickers and the chat welcome.
Half open
Two panes, nothing drawn across the fold: your screen on one side, the docked AI chat on the other.

FAQ
How do I know if an app is optimized for the iPhone Duo?
Open it on the inner screen and look for black bars, then close the phone and look for a black strip on the right of the cover screen. On the App Store page, look for the "Made for iPhone Duo" badge Apple is adding and for a Duo mention in the release notes.
Why do some finance apps show black bars on the iPhone Duo?
They have not been rebuilt for the device. Apps built with the iOS 26 SDK keep iPhone proportions inside black frames, apps built with the iOS 27 SDK extend further, and only apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK get the full screen.
Can I resize Split View on the iPhone Duo?
No. Split View on the iPhone Duo is fixed at 50/50, so each app gets half the screen. Check that your chart or table is still readable at half width before you rely on it.
Can I use AI Investing in Split View?
AI Investing runs as a single window and does not advertise Split View or multi-window support. Half open, it splits its own screen into two panes, your screen on one side and the docked AI chat on the other, so nothing is drawn across the fold.
What happens when I unfold the iPhone Duo mid-chat?
Unfolding is a size change, not a restart. AI Investing picks its layout from the available width, moving from the phone layout with a tab bar to a wider layout with a side rail. We do not promise every screen keeps its exact place, so test a fold and unfold with the screens you use most.
Does AI Investing work on the iPhone Duo?
Yes. Version 2.1.41, released on the App Store on October 24, 2026, includes changes for the iPhone Duo, including a native bridge that tells the app where the fold and the corner cutouts are. It is informational only, read-only and never places trades.
